I have this really bad habit – when I really like a beauty product, I will use it so constantly that I’ll forget to blog about it. Since the last time I reviewed a cushion foundation was 10 March (the Bobbi Brown one), and this was launched around the same time, this should tell you how much I like this cushion foundation from Shu Uemura.
Shu Uemura Blanc:Chroma Brightening UV Cushion Foundation
Casing: S$20, Refill: S$55. (Puff comes with the refill, but if you wish to replace the puff, it costs S$8)
I’m using 774 Light Beige
The Packaging: The usual compact casing with an inbuilt mirror and airlock tray/sponge holder. I notice that there’s a hexagonal net over the cushion, that’s similar to Lancome’s Blanc Expert Cushion Compact High Coverage (which also happens to be one of my top few favourite Western cushions). I’m guessing the net will make it harder to pick up the foundation liquid once the cushion starts drying up. Now what sets this one apart as well is its applicator – it’s a velvety fluff-flock-type, and not the absorbent sponge-type that all the other cushion foundations are using. My initial reaction was a bit “meh, are you sure this works?”, followed by “heyyyy this is quite good!”. This is because the fluff-type applicator picks up the foundation, and because the fluffeh surface isn’t as quick in absorbing liquids as the other sponge-types, it actually helps to transfer more product to your face. Interesting!
- Refill: This is compatible with Biotherm’s EverMoist CC cushion, YSL’s Le Cushion and Lancome’s Blanc Expert Cushion Compact High Coverage but not compatible with errthang else.
The Scent: Not much scent.
The Texture/Finish: It’s cooling on the skin, and feels hydrating, and yet settles into a relatively matte finish with slight glow. Me likey! It has a brightening finish as well, and coverage is decent at a medium level. Dark eye circles required about 3 layers to cover (remember that I have a serious case of the panda eyes), while blemishes should be easily covered with 1-2 layers. The oil control isn’t too strong, and I had to blot after about 3-4 hours cos of some shine. That said, the makeup never got patchy and didn’t oxidise, which is really awesome.
The Verdict: Definitely one of my favourite cushion foundations from the Western side – the finish is a great balance of matte-glowy, brightens the skintone, and is buildable so you can touch up without it ever getting cakey. Those with combi-oily skintypes will just have to look out for the shine that comes on after several hours, but in general, this should definitely appeal to those of all skintypes 😀 Definitely a cushion that I’m recommending to my friends – if you’re looking to get it, you can purchase this from Sephora online!
