If there’s a skincare category I’m never afraid to try, it’s a cleanser. Sure, I’ve encountered my fair share of crappy cleansers that have resulted in the formation of pesky pimples, but thankfully, most of them are pretty decent. I was immediately taken by this bottle cos of its pink packaging (I know, such a sucker right?), but the brand name also plays an important part in me being won over – Bioderma is known for their Sensibio Micellar water (the no-rinse cleansing liquid that’s suitable for even sensitive skin types). Will this Sensibio foaming cleanser live up its cousin’s name?
Bioderma Sensibio Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel – SGD$33.90
The Packaging: A tall plastic bottle with a pump system that also has a twist-lock that prevents accidental dispensing of product. 1-2 pumps should do the job.
The Scent: There’s no scent at all.
The Texture: A clear, lightweight gel that lathers up into a light airy foam. This would be most suitable for use on its own (and not with any cleansing gadgets), cos it’s pretty lightweight and the foam isn’t dense enough.
The Verdict: You know those days when you come home from a facial, and the skin’s all shiny/radiant/coated with layers of skincare, but it’s also mixed with a layer of facial sebum/dirt and you’re reluctant to do a full-on cleanse cos you don’t wanna remove all the goodness of the products? Now this will be the cleanser for the job – even the instructions on the bottle also recommend it as a second step in a multi-step cleansing routine. It gives a very mild cleanse without stripping the skin dry, leaving it soft, hydrated and smooth. However, after a long day when the face is caked with illegal immigrants (I’m talking about you, dirt, pollution particles, caked makeup and sebum puddles), this doesn’t seem to give the impression of a thorough cleanse even with 2 rounds of cleansing. Don’t get me wrong – when I run a toner-soaked cotton pad over the face, there are hardly any makeup remnants. I’m just saying that it doesn’t have the feel of a thorough \ cleanse (where the skin is ever-so-slightly tauter and feels mildly stripped). For normal/combi skintypes, this would be better for a morning cleanse, or when your skin is feeling more temperamental / more sensitive / drier than usual, or when you’re in a drier climate. Otherwise, sensitive skintypes should be pretty safe with this 😀
