Review: Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

I’m seriously turning into an old fogey much earlier than expected. Yesterday, I decided to forego my noon nap cos I suddenly had the motivation to watch The Avengers again. Alas – without the noon nap, I’m a walking dead at the office today. Since this has been sitting on my dressing table for a while, I decided to put it to the test – after all, if it can survive the intense scrutiny of HD TV, I’m sure it can survive the eyeballs of the colleagues, yes yes?

I say…

The Packaging: It comes in a functional circular air-tight plastic bottle with a click-on cap and a pump dispenser.

The Scent: Nil.

The Texture: Now the name Ultra HD foundation conjures up images of super-thick, super high-coverage foundation creams – I was pleasantly surprised that the texture of this was relatively lightweight without being too watery (and therefore not runny), and smooth. It spreads/glides over the skin very, very easily without pulling or dragging.

The Finish: It sets immediately into an almost-matte finish with a slight touch of glow. It doesn’t feel heavy at all, and yet gives a medium-to-high level of coverage. Most major blemishes are covered, while dark eye circles require several layers to hide them. It also hides most enlarged pores without drawing attention to them.

The Verdict: This surprisingly lightweight foundation has pretty good coverage and a great texture, but isn’t high in terms of sebum control. I found myself reaching for the tissue sheets to wipe the shine that had appeared after 4 hours. That aside, there was little / no oxidisation – the foundation slowly disappears/melts without a trace after about 6-8 hours. Overall, a foundation that performs well and comes in a ginormous array of 35 shades – R for rosy/red-tinged shades and Y for yellow/beige-tinged shades (I’m a Laneige 13 and I use Y225 for this). At $72, it’s definitely on the pricier end, but it’s worth a try once you get your bonus (or a Secret Santa).
