Review: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Ok this has been a long time coming 😀 I know I’ve been raving about it (along with the Lip Sleeping Mask) since I came back from Laneige’s Global Beauty Camp, but it’s worth the wait – after having put this to the test since 3rd March, I dare say that this has worked wonders for my skin. I first applied it to half the face for a couple of weeks, and then when I realised how awesome it is, I slathered it onto the entire face every night, in the hopes of looking like Song Hye Gyo while I did it hurhurhur.

I say…

The History of the Product: Notably, the first question that everyone asked was “How is this different from the previous one?”

  • 2002: Water Sleeping Pack
  • 2005: Water Sleeping Pack PLUS (improved moisturising effect + skin vitality)
  • 2009: Water Sleeping Pack EX (improved moisturising effect + skin brightening + improves the quality of sleep using neuroscience concept)
  • 2015: Water Sleeping Mask (this product)

This new version applies several new technologies, but essentially means that with it, your skin is moisturised, rehydrated, revitalised, and makes your skin as good as it would have been had you gotten the full 8 hours of sleep. Plus, the SleepScent technology helps you get a good night’s sleep (even if it’s just 4 hours like what I usually get). For more details, read my Beauty News here.

The Packaging: It still comes in the easily-recognisable blue tub, but this one has a frosted matte-finish exterior with angled edges (vs the previous version that had rounded corners and a glossy finish). The shade of blue is more muted too. That said, it’s the usual twist-open cap tub, and comes with a spatula for hygienic product usage. The mouth of the tub is wide enough for you to stick your fingers in (perhaps to wipe up the last remaining amounts when it’s finishing).

The Scent: It has a wonderful scent that isn’t overwhelming – even when I shove it straight to my nose and take a deep whiff. It is said to be formulated so that it relaxes and soothes your mind (aromatherapy), and subsequently gives you a good night’s sleep. I LOVE.

The Texture: It’s a gel product that’s super lightweight. It spreads easily on the skin, bathing your skin in immediate hydration. It’s absorbed quickly. In terms of residue, I noted that when I tried it on the back of the hand at the Gala Dinner launch, it left a little bit of a sticky residue BUT when it’s on the face, it doesn’t leave any residue whatsoever. I’m guessing this is because of the facial skin composition (pores, sebum glands etc).

The Verdict: I LOVE IT. I’ve been to Korea many times, and I usually bring the heavy-duty skincare when I get there, cos the wind and climate always dries my skin out. For the first time in the history of my Korean travels, my skin didn’t peel cos I used this. When I was at the Global Beauty Camp – even after my late night shopping at Dongdaemun, the makeup artist at the Kbeauty makeover booth still said I had good skin)

Since then, I’ve noticed a definite improvement in my skin  (and this is after nearly a month of usage) – the skin is smoother, firmer, fairer, bouncier, and overall, healthier.

I know the recommended usage is 2-3 times a week, but I’m still applying it every night – it’s even simplified my skincare routine. I find that with this product, I don’t have to pile on so many skincare products, and my skin is still awesome the next day 😀  I HIGHLY recommend this!

P.S: It’ll be launched on 7 May in Singapore, and by the way, don’t fret if you’re not heading to Korea. Here’s some insider news: Prices in Korea used to be much cheaper, but they’ve now adjusted for globalisation, and done some benchmarking – the prices in Korea have gone up slightly, while the prices in Singapore have done down. (I remember back when prices in Korea were a good 50% cheaper, but these days, the discrepancy is not that huge). So even if you get it in Singapore, you won’t be paying that much extra.

P.P.S: Here’s a secret: I used to get major breakouts from the Water Sleeping Pack Plus (second version), but this hasn’t given me any adverse reactions yet, so I’m SUPER happy 😀

  7. Hi Cheryl, swear I love your reviews about Laneige and some of my other flavors! 😀

Can I ask you something about skincare? Currently, I am using Laneige Skincare as my skincare routine.

    1) Cleanser: Laneige Multi Cleanser
    2) Exfoliation: Laneige Multiberry
    3) Emulsion: Laneige Moisture Emulsion
    4) Essence: Laneige Water Bank Essence, soon to EX
    5) Eye care: Laneige Water Bank Eye Gel
    6) Moisturizer: Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream.
    7) Sheet mask: Beauty Diary

I am wondering if I can alternate between Laneige White Plus Series and Water Bank like, Mon – Wed, I use white plus, Thu – Sun, I use water bank. Or switch around the essence portion and moisturizer. Do advise. Wanna purchase but I fear I make the wrong move.

    Thank you again!! ❤
    Loving your bloggg!

    • Hello! sorry for the late reply!
Personally, I rotate on a daily basis – 1 day (hydrating), 1 day (whitening) and 1 day (firming), and it seems to be working well so far. You can try your suggested method too~! I think your routine seems pretty comprehensive for now (in between Step 2 and 3 you might wanna try an essence lotion like Laneige Advance Clear-C Effector (treatment toners). You can keep the Essence and Moisturizer portion 😀 Psst: I highly recommend the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask – it’s been working wonders on my skin (even though I’m using it everyday against their recommended 2-3x a week) 😀

  13. Harlow! If I will to use laneige sleeping mask every night, so I still need to use hydrogel face mask then? Or laneige sleeping mask could be a replacement of hydrogel mask?

    • Hello! I don’t think there’s a need for another hydrogel face mask (I’m assuming you mean those sheet ones) – you can just apply either one sheet mask or a leave-on sleeping mask. Too much might not be as effective. 🙂
