Review: Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control

There really is no stopping the BB cushion wave – every single time I go to Korea, I’ll think to myself “Ok, no more buying BB cushions! Say no!”

And then after barely 5 minutes in Myeongdong or Lotte Department store, I’ll be tottering over at remarkably fast speed (and leaving my friends in my dust-filled cloud), and oohing and ahhing over the latest cushion launched.

To date, I have bought and tried the following BB / CC cushions (listed in random order):

  1. IOPE Air Cushion Sunblock EX-Cover
  2. IOPE Air Cushion XP (the new and improved version of the IOPE Air Cushion Sunblock EX-Cover)
  3. Hera UV Mist Cushion
  4. Holika Holika Face 2 Change Moist Cushion BB
  5. Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion
  6. Laneige BB Cushion (the new and improved version of the Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion)
  7. O Hui Mineral Water BB Cushion
  8. Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion
  9. The Face Shop Natural Sun AQ Smart Cushion
  10. Innisfree Long Wear Cushion
  11. Innisfree Water Glow Cushion
  12. VDL Metal Cushion Foundation
  13. O Hui Moist CC Cushion
  14. The Face Shop Cushion Screen Cell
  15. Lancome Blanc Expert Cushion Compact
  16. Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion Brightening
  17. The History of Whoo Luxury Golden Cushion
  18. Hera UV Mist Cushion (2015 Olympia Le-Tan Limited Black Edition)
  19. VDL Beauty Metal Cushion 2015 Upgraded version

Even though  I’ve also got the Etude House Magic Any Cushions that I’ve yet to review (you can check out their photos that I took when I attended the launch in Korea here!), I guess this makes it lucky number 10. Say hi to the (even) new(er) version of the Laneige BB Cushion  – the Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion. (or Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control, if you’re a stickler).

Laneige Pore Control BB CushionLaneige BB Cushion Pore Control – SGD$59 (includes one extra refill)

In Singapore, the shades available are: 13, 21, 23, 31 and 33. Shade 14 is only available in Korea

Innisfree Long Wear Cushion (9)Comparing the matte finishes: Innisfree Long Wear cushion vs Laneige BB cushion Pore Control

I say…

First and foremost – the Laneige BB cushion is more for whitening and brightening, whilst this one (although it does brighten) is catered more for the following:

  • Purify the pores and enhance skin’s capability to prevent further pore troubles
  • Cover up pores with tight elastometer and soft focus powder
  • Offers a fresh and semi-matte finish without greasiness with its powerful dual powder formula.
  • Cools down the skin temperature by three degrees, anti-darkening and long-lasting shine-free effect (although these last two are similar qualities offered by the Laneige BB cushion.

Righty then, let’s get down to reviewing the product 😀

  • It comes in the usual casing as with more BB cushions, only this one comes with a blue top.
  • And yes, the refill is compatible with Hera, AmorePacific, IOPE, Laneige and Etude House.
  • The coverage is really goooood. It’s great for times when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to pat on multiple layers – this covers almost all my blemishes except for the dark eye circles (which I’ve come to accept as part of my genetic heirloom from my long-lost great-grandpanda).
  • I’m proud to announce that a lot of my pores were covered up really nicely, with just one layer.
  • It’s buildable and won’t cake (yippee!), but one layer will suffice.
  • Despite using shade 21, I didn’t have that yellowish tinge to my skintone.
  • It also covered up the redness in my skin.
  • There’s a cooling sensation upon fresh application, but it doesn’t stay long. I’m not fussed about this –
  • The wear time is loooong too. I only needed to touch up after 7 hours (and this includes some morning sinus sneezing and blowing of the nose).
  • The finish is matte with a slight touch of dewiness. This is great cos once my sebum glands start production, I won’t need that extra shine to my face.
  • Now comes the most important part – remember I said in my review for the Laneige BB Cushion that oxidisation was a major issue? Praise the AmorePacific Beauty gods – this has finally been resolved! Even after 7 hours,  I didn’t see the spotty oxidised clumps of goo on my face. YAYYYY. And this was tested out in my crazy summer monster of a country Singapore, where temperatures average 32-35 degrees celsius with a 80% humidity.

Ok, very very excited now – this has become one of my favourite BB cushions! Go get yours nao!

      • yes! I tried the propolis cushion .. love the coverage and finish (although it’s a shade too light for my tanned skin but good as a brightener!) .. until yesterday when i ithcy hand pressed too hard on the sponge with my fingers and it.. disintegrated… 0.o

      • hahaha! me too.. i just snapped my tarte brow architect into half last weekend!! boohoo!!
I’m sure you have more replacements for all of those broken products haha

      • Thank you again!!! I’ve just started using IOPE XP Cushion because of your review. And now, I can’t wait to try this product. These cushions just won’t stop upgrading. Anyway, how will you compare this to IOPE?

      • Hmmm.. I think IOPE is just slightly brighter and gives a bit more radiance and has a little more glow, while this Laneige one has slightly better oil control with a somewhat matte finish. I can’t really pick a more preferred one which is why I’m carrying both around heh heh heh.

      • Ohhh. How about the coverage then? And which of the two last longer especially during this very hot weather.

  1. Hiya! How does this compare to the IOPE XP? I’m so torn as I’m using the Laneige 23 one and love it but don’t mind trying other brands. is the N23 at IOPE compatible?

    Thanks!!!

    • Hi Lynni, sorry for the late reply – this has stronger coverage than the IOPE Air Cushion XP, but also has a more matte finish. I don’t have N23 so I’m unable to comment on that 🙂

  2. Hi Cheryl!!I’ve only recently discovered your blog and I’m glad I did! 😀
You have really helpful reviews for so many products I’m looking to try(plus I like the way you write)..This one was no exception!I think I’m gonna need pore coverage,long-wearing and the matte finish once we hit 42 degrees with the same crazy ~70% humidity here!!Thanx!! (^_^)

  3. Tried the original bb cushion by laneige but it oxidised within 2 hrs on me… >< hopefully this version is better like what you have reviewed!

  5. Hello, may I know whether #21 Natural Beige is almost the same shade as The Face Shop’s Natural AQ Smart Cushion? Because I want to buy this Laneige BB Cushion online and someone recommended that I use #21. However, my skin tone is 1-2 shades darker than the Smart Cushion. And if you’re using Laneige #21 and the Smart Cushion with perfect matches to your skin tone, then I might need to get this in a shade darker than Laneige #21.

Sorry if the message sounds confusing, I hope it’s understandable :p thanks!

  6. hi! how does this one compare to the new summer edition HERA UV mist long lasting cushion in terms of long lasting power, pore minimizing property, and coverage? what one would you recommend more? thanks!

  7. Hello again! I’ve been using this one for days now, and I’m really loving it. It really covered my pores and has better coverage & last longer than IOPE. The only down factor here is that it doesn’t have that dewy or glowy effect. But this is now my HG.

By the way, how do you usually wash your cushions? I really had a hard time cleaning mine. (>_<)

    • hey hey, if you want glow, you can dab on several dots of 3CE’s Highlight Beam on the cheek bones and nose bridge 🙂

I try to wash them but I just inadvertently rip / destroy them in the process, so I just buy a new one. heh.

      • LOL! I’ve also destroyed some of my puffs. But is there a cushion puff sold separately for this?

  8. thank you for ur review. How does this one compare to Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion? about the level of coverage, last long and glow? Hope u reply soon:x

    • hey hey, this has more coverage, but has less glow, cos it’s meant to have a semi-matte finish. Also, because Sulwhasoo’s Evenfair Perfecting Cushion has more moisture (and so contributes to its glow factor), it lasts a shorter time compared with the Laneige BB cushion Pore Control. 🙂

    • Hey Cas, it is slightly dark for me, but I was given this as a gift, so I didn’t have much of a choice. In any case, I sometimes try to brighten it up by layering some of my IOPE Air Cushion over it 🙂

  10. i have fair skin but not super pale, asian, and from singapore. im using missha perfect bb no 21 and i think it oxidises a lot and make my face dull, so i mix with mizon snail repair bb but its too much trouble and often end up cakey if i apply too much for covering my redness arnd the nose and undereye. i do not know what shade to choose for laneige, could u please advice because im buyung online and not off the counter? ^^

  11. Do you think this will work with really oily teenage skin. My skin problems usually involve pores and excess amounts of oil (whyyyy U_U). Right now I’m using Etude House Cotton Fit BB Cream and it’s okay. Do you have any suggestions which one are really matte since most BB creams have that dewy finish the Koreans love. Thanks ^0^

    • Hi Jazmin, for matte finishes, try either this Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control or Innisfree Long Wear Cushion. Alternatively, there’s a new product by Laneige called the Brush Pact – it’s a powder designed to be used specially with BB cushions for that finishing mattifying touch 🙂

  12. Hey! I’m planning to buy a bb cushion for the first time. Since I have normal skin, I’m really confused as to which cushion I should buy… Which one do you think is the best? 🙂

  13. Hi Cheryl, I really love BB cuhion as it’s very convenience especially for travel, but I find Hera and IOPE too oily for me (dislike the usual bb creams’ stickiness) and the Innisfree long wear cushion is too dry for me (dry patches all over my face even when first apply, can’t blend into my skin at all).
Does this Laneige one has the stickiness feeling like Hera and IOPE? Or is it as dry as the Innisfree one?
I really wish that I can get a “in between one” that is suitable for me =(

  14. Hey,
So glad to be able to find this review! But now I’m so confused: whether to get the laneige bb cushion whitening (white) or the pore control (blue). Which one do you think is more suitable for a combination skin? Somehow I love the glow effect of the white but afraid it’ll turn out to look oily 😡

    • It depends on the type of combination skin you have. If it’s combi-dry then you can try the one in the white casing. I’ve got combi-oily skin so I much prefer the one in the blue casing, cos the other one oxidises really quickly and easily due to my sebum production 😦

  16. Hi! May I know out of lineage, hera and iope, which one do you prefer for the singapore weather? I have normal skin but my t-zone gets slightly oily throughout the day and would prefer a dewy finish but not overboard shiny 🙂 THANK YOU!

  18. Hi! Is the Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion suitable for dry skin? I need moisture and some coverage and I prefer matte finish but I’m afraid if it will cakes on dry skin?

  22. Hi, I was wondering which one you would think is better for me. Either the Laneige Pore Control or the Innisfree long wear. I have oily skin, not too oily but no matter what foundation I wear I need to powder or my make up smudges on my glasses. I have a few acne scars and sensitive skin. I’m looking for the one that controls oil better and covers well but also gives a natural finish lol. Sorry I’m just so iffy on which one to buy >.<

    • Hey Liz,

It’s a bit tough for me to comment cos I’m not sure of your skin condition as well as your personal preferences / climate / lifestyle. However, if you want a slightly more natural finish, try the Laneige Pore Control BB cushion. The Innisfree Long Wear one looks a slight bit more “powdered” and mattified.

You can check out this post where I posted a before and after BB cushion photo of my face, so you can see what I mean by a natural finish (for the Laneige Pore Control BB cushion).

      Hope it helps! 🙂

  23. hello I’m planning on getting one out of the three laneige bb cushions (snow/whitening/pore control) and I’ve been searching online for reviews and came pass your amazing blogs and thought who else to ask but you. I have very dry skin and live in the UK (so humidity isn’t really an issue) and I prefer a velvet textured finish to a foundation/bb cream which one you would recommend? and also which shade would you recommend if i use Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser in sand? thanks 🙂

    • Hi Pauline,

Thanks for popping by my blog! 🙂 I think it’s a bit tough to decide, cos most BB cushions don’t give a velvety finish – they’re more dewy instead.

Innisfree Long Wear cushion gives the most velvet (matte) finish, but it can be a little drying cos it’s made for oily skin and to control oil.

Innisfree Water Glow has a good combination of matte and dewy, and is probably suitable for combo dry-oily skin types.

In your case, since you’ve mentioned that your skin is very dry, the most moisturising BB cushions I know are the Laneige BB cushion (whitening), IOPE Air Cushion XP, Hanyul BB cushion as well as the Hera UV Mist cushion (but this contains a touch of clay for oil control).

Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion has good levels of moisture and a somewhat matte finish, so you can consider this as a second option.

In terms of shades, I’m sorry but I won’t be able to help you out there cos I don’t have any Laura Mercier products on hand to make a comparison with 🙂

      Hope this helps! 🙂

      • Thanks for the reply Cheryl, this helps a lot 🙂 I think I’m going to meet half way and give the pore control ago. I’ve found out today that I’m a NC35 if that helps at all? I think I might try the shade 23 or 31

  25. SPF 50 plus a 7-hour coverage? Wow!! Wish there was a way I could figure out the right shade for me though. 😐 I don’t think we have that brand in Manila.

  32. Hi! May I know how is this different from IOPE Air Cushion XP? I too have combi skin with oily T-zone and am interested to try out either Laneige or the IOPE one. Hence, would like to know if there’s any difference you feel between those two? 🙂

    • Hello! Iope has a slightly more dewy finish while Laneige has a strong oil control and more matte finish. It depends on what kind of finish you’re looking for. I prefer Laneige in humid climates and Iope for times when I’m in drier countries or have drier skin. 🙂

  35. Hi there! Glad to have found your blog as a lot of reviews are not based in sg and our weather is crazy! Can I ask if the laneige bb cushion is good for ppl with dry skin? I used iope and it makes my skin look dry and cakey:( or do u have any recommendations for bb cushion for dry skin? Thanks a lot :))

    • Hello! Sorry for the late reply as I’ve got so many comments to attend to. I think you can give the Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control a try cos it’s not super drying. Avoid Hera though – the clay content will dry your skin out more. For dry skin I’d say go for the dewy ones such as Sulwhasoo’s Evenfair Cushions (both versions are dewy and moisturising) as well as The History of Whoo Luxury Golden Cushion. VDL’s Metal Cushion, The Face Shop Screen Cell cushion also have high moisture content. Alternatively, use a moisture primer before applying your makeup and also apply lots of hydrating products 🙂

  45. Hi there, I’ve been so confused between choosing the Laneige or innisfree bb cushion. I’ve heard that Laneige products focuses more on adults. I’m 18years old, should I go for innisfree or Laneige cushion just to be safe? Thanks!

    • Hello! actually to be really honest, these BB cushions are more of a makeup item than a skincare, so if you’re picking cushions, the brand doesn’t make a difference. Just pick the one with the finish that you like the best (matte, dewy, long-staying, lightweight etc etc) Pick the one that goes with your skin type and climate too 🙂

    • Hello! My current favourite is Laneige’s Pore Control BB cushion cos it withstands SG’s humid climate. Missha’s Magic M Cushion is a pretty decent product too – but note that these work for my combi-oily skin, so they may/may not work for you since your skin type might differ from mine 🙂

  49. Just curious: have you tried the hera long stay matte? The matte (well, they spell it as “matt”) version. I heard so much about hera and took the splurge. Wondering which is better… laniege pore control or hera matte.
I really like the hera one, and bought off qoo10 and getting all antsy.,, seems they do not sell the just refills anymore which is a pity. And the idea of getting a full set with the case just for another refill. And hoping that laniege can fit to hera. (A bit worried cos even though etude house is also by amore pacific, etude house cannot fit hera compact)

    • Hello! I just bought the Hera Matt version on my recent trip (along with so many other cushions). Hopefully I’ll get around to reviewing them soon cos I’ve got a backlog 😦

There’s absolutely no guarantee that cushions under the same umbrella family will fit each other’s casing – it really depends on each product development team. 🙂
