Review: Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion

I think there’s some higher power up there in the world that messes with you whenever your money runs out – every other essential item that you have to use will also run out at the same time. I’ve had a time when my shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, makeup remover and toothpaste all ran out at the same time. Quite obviously, I had to run out to get them.

This time, my BB is running out and guess what? The last I checked, the counters didn’t have any stock either. -major sad face- Before it completely dries up like the Sahara Desert, I’d better do a review on my Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion.

Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion – SGD59 (comes with extra refill)

Pardon the grubby cushion puff – I’ve been using it for about 2 months

A close-up of the BB Cushion – not dented in the least despite me trying to squeeze every last drop of bb essence out

I didn’t have time to take a before photo when I was putting on makeup this morning. Honestly, who has the mood to take photos at 5am? So I’m using this photo from my Missha Time Revolution White Cure Hydro-Gel Mask review

After applying the Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion + Laneige loose powder + Esprique Melty Fix Cheek

Now, I love this Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion but it’s slightly on the yellow side. As you can see from the above picture, my skin is more rosy-fair and the BB looks slightly goldish/yellowish on my hand. I’ve had to “even” out the colour with my Laneige loose powder (review coming soon!)

If the BB runs out, simply flip the cushion over. Gravity makes everything go down, from our asses to BB creams. However, as you can see, I’m clearly running out of BB.

Puff care: I usually squeeze the puff between two sheets of tissue paper after using to ensure that everything is removed from the puff. This is also to ensure that it keeps dry. If you must wash it, be very gentle cos you could tear it really easily. Soak it in lukewarm or hot water with some detergent or facial cleanser and massage it. Rinse thoroughly, gently press out excess water and then leave out to dry.

Application and Effects:  It works in the same concept as the IOPE Air Cushion Sunblock Ex-Cover. They’ve got similar names and concepts because they’re all under the same parent company, Amore Pacific. Laneige is at the lower end of its product line, catered more for young-20s consumers while IOPE is more for the mid- to late-20s consumers with higher purchasing power. I use shade 21, Natural Beige. It comes with a free refill (same as IOPE) and also has a flip-open cover cum sponge holder to ensure that it doesn’t dry up.

Comparison: The Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion has a tad bit more coverage than the IOPE Air Cushion Sunblock Ex-Cover , so I use the Laneige in the morning. However, as I said, it is slightly yellowish in tinge, so I have to offset it with a pinkish / lighter coloured loose powder. Sometimes, when I’m in the mood, I’ll dust the Etude House Face Designing Brightener all over my face too. I’ll then use the IOPE for touch-ups during the day.

Anyway, I’ve tried to capture the colour difference but I’m not sure if you can see it. Clearly, the “I” on the left stands for IOPE while the “L” stands for Laneige (on the right). IOPE is brighter and closer to my skin tone while Laneige is a little goldish/yellowish.

Texture: Both are about the same, and have the same staying power. The Laneige one has a distinct Laneige product smell, while IOPE has a really nice fragrance too! I can’t quite describe it, but it’s refreshing and yummy. Both also feel very cooling when applied to the face, and don’t cake at all (the new term these days is “buildable” cos it builds on the former layer”. Plus, both are SPF50+ PA+++.

I heard from an industry source that Laneige is supposedly retweaking the formulation of the Snow BB Soothing to make it less yellowish. Plus, this version has been specially formulated for the Singapore market as we prefer products with more coverage, versus the Koreans who have naturally good skin because of their climate and don’t need that much coverage.

In conclusion, I say get this. It’s definitely much better than foundations or BB creams which are thicker in consistency and thus clog your pores more. Plus, you don’t need to use your hands for application, which minimises the pimple occurences. What’s more, these BB cushions are also buildable and don’t cake, thus allowing you to touch up and go around without worrying that you look horrible.

Can’t wait for the next batch to arrive!

Update: 8 June 2015: I’m a huge fan of the Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion – check out my review here.

  1. Hey Dalja! great review ^^
As u mentioned the version u have is specially formulated with more coverage, does that means those in Korea will have less coverage? As I’m planning to get this in korea, but i don’t have korean 우유피부 😦 I’ll need more coverage.

    • Hey NeL,

Yup the version in Korea will have less coverage. Because Laneige Sg knows that the Singapore market prefer to have more coverage – our lifestyle and climate = 쓰레기 피부 ㅋㅋㅋ – so a special request was sent to the Korean headquarters to have a special formulation with more coverage for our market. So the version in Korea doesn’t have as much coverage.

But if you’re gonna buy from Korea I’d totally recommend that you get Hera instead. It’s so so awesome and I carry it everywhere 😀

  2. oh i did check out about Hera b4. It’s really tempting but quite pricey as well!
Apart from 2 of these products will u recommend any korean bb product that is around Laneige price?
    thank you so so much!

    • Hey NeL, could you let me know your price range in dollars? Cos if it’s the Laneige price range in Korea, it’ll be very different from the Singapore Laneige price range :p

      • oh sorry to trouble you. erm maybe around sgd40 or under, as i would like to save my budget for sulwhasoo skincare lol

    • Hey NeL,

      wise words indeed. muahaha.

I’ve actually got an extra Laneige BB Soothing Cushion to sell off if you’re interested? It’s just the case and the product, brand new and still sealed, in shade 21.

Alternatively, if you’re headed for the Sulwhasoo counter, I’d very strongly recommend you get their Evenfair foundation. It’s about KRW60,000 or KRW70,000 and really, really worth the money.

      Otherwise, try:
Laneige Water Supreme Foundation (the formulation in Korea and Singapore should be the same)
Laneige Skin Veil Foundation (gives more coverage than the Water Supreme) – KRW27,000
Tony Moly Gold BB Cream or the Triple Expert BB Cream is pretty decent.
The Face Shop Powder Perfection is also good if your skin isn’t that oily – mine’s kinda oily so the powder finishing just go blah in a couple of hours.

Let me know if you need more recommendations and I’ll ransack my stash 😀

      • Hey Dalja, thanks for your offer but I’m not from Singapore and I’m quite…yellowish 😦 so shade 21 will be too light for me.

Wow! Thanks a lot for all the recommendations!! 😀 Shall check all em out to get the best shade for myself as most korean bb creams come in 1 shade only right? 🙂

I’ll say the Sulwhasoo Evenfair Foundation is way too pricey, but I can’t wait to grab the Sulwhasoo Fisrt Care Serum. Am I having conflict with myself? lol
        Anyway thx!

    • hehe no problem! but i totally agree that investing in skincare is much wiser than on makeup 🙂 actually most of the bigger brands now have bb creams in at least 2 shades, if not more. good luck with your bb cream search! 😀

  4. I have just bought the IOPE XP Cover version.I find that it provides more coverage than Laneige, which is good for me, since I do have uneven skintone, enlarged pores at sides of nose and some pigmentation.

I find that cleaning the puff is not easy.I tried using warm water and puff cleanser, but it couldn’t clean the puff completely.

Do you have any recommendation for puff cleanser?

BTW, I ordered from QOO10 global shop, and I think they do ship to other countries, not just Singapore.
